Helsinki Market Square
Market square attracts many visitors from spring to fall mainly but Christmas market also worth seeing on the same sight. It is located between harbour, Esplanadi park and Old Market building. Because it is not far from Senate Square and Helsinki cathedral many tourist make their way to market square as well.
It is not a huge market but offers good taste of Finnish seasonal products. For example in summer it would be a perfect place to try the most tasty and juicy strawberries, different berries such as forest picked blueberry ( mustikka ), cowberry ( puolukka), raspberry ( vadelma ) and more. Also you may find common Finnish pastries to pick up and go or enjoy them in one of outdoor cafe with your coffee.
Locals enjoy to be in market square in October during Herring market ( silakkamarkkinat ) which is organise by city and people live around archipelago sell their products to city people. Some claim this tradition continues since 1700s. It is a different view than regular market look because most of people sell goods from their own boats. This is very picturesque moment and good experience.
